Very few people know this, but during the Middle Ages Nottingham was one of the premier castles in England. It was on a par with the likes of Windsor Castle and the Tower of London, it was a huge military fortress, a favorite of our English monarchs, and for a time one of the most magnificent Royal Palaces in the realm. David’s book follows the stories of the famous English monarchs who made Nottingham Castle their own and also follows the story of the Duke of Newcastle’s Palace that now stands on the site, bringing us up to the present day.
David Young is a volunteer historian at Nottingham Castle. He remembers visiting the Castle as a boy way back in the year 1950 and over the subsequent decades he has developed a close relationship with the place. He delivers regular weekend talks on the history of the Castle that draw hugely positive reviews from the public and has now produced the book “My Story of Nottingham Castle” which is based on those talks.
