Pride, Hope, Home LGBT+ celebration

10:00 am - 4:00 pm
*Bonington Gallery
Dryden Street, Nottingham, NG1 4GG

‘Pride, Hope, Home’ event at the Bonington Gallery, Nottingham Trent University.

The day has been curated as a celebration, inspired by a research project exhibition of stories of LGBT belonging called IncludeAge (https://includeage.co.uk/). It’s a day of discussions around place, safety and belonging across the LGBT/Queer community.

Speakers include Yael van der Wouden (The Safekeep, winner of the Women’s Prize for fiction) and Sacha Coward (Queer as Folklore, the queer coding of myths and legends)

There is also a poetry and performance session with an open mike and the day begins with free coffee and pastries before the first session at 10.30.

This is a WRAP/NTU event, supported by Five Leaves
Tickets are free but reservation is required, full details below

Inspired by the Bonington Vitrines Through Our Eyes, In Our Words exhibition, we’ll reflect on LGBTQ+ experiences across time, with writers Lucy Grace and Morgan Holden leading a special workshop centred around safety, protection and belonging.

Sacha Coward, writer of Queer as Folklore, also joins us In Conversation with artist Wingshan, exploring the queer coding of myths, legends and fantastical creatures, while Yael Van Der Wouden reads from her Women’s-Prize-winning novel The Safekeep. Both writers will be part of Book Club conversations about their work, and Bad Betty Press will be on hand during the day to write personalised poems, conjuring up words of pride and hope which make a home in your heart.

You’ll also have the opportunity to try your hand at different crafts, courtesy of the Staff Writing Guild and colleagues from Library and Learning Resources, explore Poetry, Performance and Queerness in our writing workshop, browse stalls from LGBTQ+ organisations and more.
