Fiction Book Group reads Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler
14a Long Row, Nottingham
Our book group is open to all. Attend every meeting, occasionally or just once in your life. All we ask is that you read the book in advance and take part in the discussion. There’s a short introduction by a member of staff, a group regular, or someone we know with a special interest in the book in question. This is a casual group discussion, there is no author or presentation.
Asha was born into a broken world. There are many things she needs to know: how her country could embrace a violent, far-right President promising to make America great again, why they turned a blind eye to the suffering – and the truth about her mother.
Set in 2032, five years after the events of the previous novel Parable of the Sower, Parable of the Talents is told from the points of view of Lauren Oya Olamina, her daughter Larkin Olamina/Asha Vere, and Lauren’s husband Taylor Franklin Bankole.
By popular demand, we are doubling down on Octavia E. Butler and discussing the follow up novel to our August book club pick, Parable of the Sower, by using our December club to discuss Parable of the Talents. You do not have to have attended our August book club to come to this one! But if you’ve not read Parable of the Sower, it’s likely we’ll be mentioning and possibly spoiling it during this discussion.
