Our books groups are open to all. Attend every meeting, occasionally or just once in your life. All we ask is that you read the book in advance and take part in the discussion. There’s a short introduction by a member of staff, a group regular, or someone we know with a special interest in the book in question. And you don’t have to be Irish.
An evocative t meditation on affection, family and lost innocence, this mesmerising novella from the author of Small Things Like These follows a young girl sent to live with foster parents on an Irish farm.
It is a hot summer in rural Ireland. A girl is sent to live with foster parents on a farm, not knowing when she will return home. In the strangers’ house, she finds a warmth and affection she has not known before and slowly begins to blossom in their care. But in a house where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers how fragile her idyll is.
This is a novella, that packs a punch and there’s a lot to discuss. You might have seen the film of the book, The Quiet Girl.
