From former slaves and revolutionaries to musicians and future statesmen, they arrived in this part of London from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia, to make a lasting impact on the communities they lived in and on British society and culture as a whole, as they broke down walls to let others through.
It is a legacy that continues down the generations, fuelling movements such as Black Lives Matter and inspiring fresh ways of looking at the world. The individuals featured on these pages are just a small selection of these unsung heroes and sheroes with links to Camden, Islington and Westminster, people who have contributed so much but are seldom seen as part of local or national history.
This special publication is an opportunity to pay tribute to them.
Highly illustrated, large format pamphlet
