This sound-illustrated talk will cover popular music, live performance, soldiers’ songs, minstrelsy, hymns, folk songs and commercial songs of the period, including the songs of the Prisoner of War camps – with the content reflecting propaganda, patriotism and the changing course of the war.
John Mullen teaches in the English Department at the University of Rouen in France.
