Ten Poems about Nottingham cover hi res (1)

In association with Nottingham’s very own Candlestick Press, we are thrilled to host the launch of this mini-anthology of Nottingham poems.

Edited by the distinguished local academic and writer, John Lucas, “Ten Poems about Nottingham” presents images of the city and county, rural and urban, from the eighteenth century to the present day.

With references that consider this historical city’s industrial and manufacturing heritage, old traditions, football and much more, this selection culminates in Wayne Burrows’ account of the present-day stag-and hen-parties whose antics enliven the city centre, to the amusement of onlookers.

With a broad brush-stoke and considerable wit, the poems are like a little minibus trip through the history of the county and the city.

Featuring unfamiliar, even anonymous poets alongside the well known, contributors to this collection include; Wayne Burrows, Derrick Buttress, Joan Downar, Rosie Garner, Cathy Grindrod, D. H. Lawrence, Vernon Scannell, Deborah Tyler-Bennett and Henry Kirke White.

Tonight, John Lucas will introduce some of the featured poets, before they read from their work.

“Ten Poems about Nottingham” will be available to purchase on the night at £4.95

Admission for this event is free and refreshments will be available.

There will be 15% discount off any purchases made on the night.
