Ursula Martin never thought she would walk 3,700 miles around Wales, but following a cancer diagnosis it seemed like the only reasonable thing to do. Her best-selling book One Woman Walks Wales, documented that journey, but this was only the start of Ursula’s ambition.

In an epic test of stamina, Ursula has since embarked on a 5,550 mile walk from Wales to Ukraine and back again, with stops including Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Italy, France and Spain. Bringing to life challenging landscapes and the people she met along the way, this was a life changing walk for Ursula leading to her new book One Woman Walks Europe
Rather than untying her laces Ursula is embarking on a walking book tour covering 1,735  miles, commencing in Wales and moving on to walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats. She will be calling into bookshops along the way for talks, signings and hopefully the odd cup of tea.

Ursula’s Nottingham pitstop will take the form of our traditional illustrated lecture, though perhaps a little less formal than some, where she will tell her story, anecdotes old and new and show slides of where she has been.

I slept in a field, where the impenetrable corn crop turned to an area of cleared earth, with yellow peas scattered on the ground and a fuzz of cut stalks snapping under my feet. The sun set far away over the flat land, yellow gold filling the clear white sky, and I basked in the warmth until it disappeared, then wrapped up for the cold. I would often leave the outer covering of my tent off, sleeping under just the inner mesh to enjoy the sky darkening above me, feeling part of the world, rather than shut inside a tiny plastic cave. I was toasty all night, and woke to find a thin frost on my sleeping bag and frozen beads of condensation covering the tent mesh, like crystals on a wedding dress.
