Five Leaves hosts the Nottingham Pagan Book Club, a reading group for those interested in Pagan literature, both modern and classical. The group is open to anyone who would like to discuss books from a pagan perspective, be they long-time pagans or just curious about exploring pagan spirituality.

For September we’re back to the Greeks – this time for Natalie Haynes’ fantastic book on Greek goddesses. Haynes manages to combine huge amounts of research with a plethora of pop culture references and a wicked sense of humour, for this very smart, yet entertaining take on the classics.  If you’ve not heard her podcast ‘Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics’ give that a listen and you’ll know what we mean.

As ever with this book group only you don’t have to read it cover to cover if you don’t want to, or you don’t have time. Likewise, feel free to come with a book full of page flags and notes all the way through if that’s your style!

The book is available from Five Leaves Bookshop for 15% off (that’s £9.49 for this one) but feel free to get it elsewhere (including the library) if you’d prefer. To access the discount, email your order to bookshop@fiveleaves.co.uk or pop by the shop.

More about the book from the publisher:

Get ready to meet the goddesses, from the Sunday Times bestselling author of Stone Blind and Pandora’s Jar, Natalie Haynes. These are the stories of the Greek goddesses. As fearsome, powerful and beloved as their male counterparts, it’s time to look beyond the columns of a ruined temple to the awesome power within.

We meet Hera, who, whilst most often known for enacting vicious, creative revenge on the women – mortal or otherwise – who catch the wandering eye of her husband Zeus, turns out not to be such a villain after all.

We meet Demeter, a mother who will go to any lengths, no matter the cost, to retrieve her daughter Persephone from Hades’ clutches. We’ll be introduced to The Furies, three women who will literally go to the ends of the earth to enact bloody vengeance but who, surprisingly, are the goddesses who can teach us the most about the way we live now. Examining the role of these goddesses and more, Divine Might will change everything you thought you knew about our most ancient stories.

Full of fire, fury and devotion, Natalie Haynes brings the divine women of Olympia kicking and screaming into the modern age.
