Maureen Makki lived in Sudan for thirty years. All during that period she was researching and talking to Sudanese women of all ages and classes. In her book, Sowti, she discusses the experience of Sudanese women, including their varied attitudes to female circumcision, marriage and poligamy, religion, education, and their visions of the future.
