The short story is where many writers take their first, tentative steps. For some, it remains their first love. Although the writers featured in Keeping it Short – Giselle Leeb, Alison Moore, Nicholas Royle and Megan Taylor – may have published thirteen novels between them, they are all devoted to the short story. In this event they will read from their work and discuss the form.

giselle-leebGiselle Leeb grew up in South Africa and lives in Nottingham. Her short stories have appeared in Ambit, Mslexia, Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, Litro, Bare Fiction and elsewhere. In 2016, she was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize. She has recently become an assistant editor at Reckoning.

alison-mooreAlison Moore’s first novel, The Lighthouse, was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Both The Lighthouse and her second novel, He Wants, were Observer Books of the Year. Her short fiction has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra and collected in The Pre-War House and Other Stories. Her most recent novel is Death and the Seaside.
