John Clare – the celebrated poet of the English countryside – was also witness to the enclosures and anti-trespass laws which limited his world. John Goodridge reminds us that Clare challenged the misuse of property rights and admired and learned from the nomadic Gypsies and drovers of his day who loved the land as he did.
