23b8a7fed7d5445755f60dbcb8910e89_400x400Deirdre will go through the career of the Irish poet who moved from pre-Raphaelite/Celtic Twilight mysticism to work with the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. A Nationalist from the Protestant Ascendancy he was not involved in the 1916 rising, though wrote about it later. In 1923 Yeats won the Nobel Prize for Literature before becoming an elder statesman of Irish politics and culture. You can hear WB Yeats reading his best known poem – The Second Coming (“things fall apart, the centre cannot hold”) on YouTube! Organised in association with Nottingham Irish Studies Group Admission is £3 on the door, including 15% off any purchases on the night. Refreshments available.
