Five Leaves is delighted to host the prolific writer, broadcaster and racial justice campaigner, Darcus Howe. Darcus came to public attention in 1970 as one of the Mangrove Nine. In 1981 he organized the 20,000-strong “Black People’s March” in protest at the handling of the investigation into the New Cross Fire, in which 13 black teenagers died.He is best known in the UK for his Black on Black series on Channel 4 and his current affairs programme, Devil’s Advocate.
Darcus will be accompanied by Paul Field, co-author of Darcus Howe: A Political Biography. Paul Field worked as a journalist for many years, specializing in issues of policing, asylum and institutional racism, before becoming a lawyer specializing in the fields of discrimination and employment.
