Book Launch – Homintern: How Gay Culture Liberated the Modern World, by Gregory Woods

Thursday, 14th April, 2016
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

14a Long Row, Nottingham, NG1 2DH

GWIn this vastly ambitious study, which crosses continents, languages, and nearly an entire century, Gregory Woods reveals the astonishing role that homosexuality has played in shaping Western culture.

Stretching from the trial of Oscar Wilde at the close of the nineteenth century to the birth of gay liberation in the wake of the 1969 Stonewall riots, this book encompasses the revolutionary shift from ‘homosexuality’ as a psychological condition to ‘gayness’ understood as a sexual identity.

Gregory Woods has been Professor of Gay and Lesbian Studies at Nottingham Trent University since 1998, when he was the first to receive such an appointment in the UK. He is the author of two previous critical books and six collections of poetry.

Admission for this event is free and refreshments will be available.
