We are pleased to be involved with Lesbians and Gays Support the Libraries, which involves a talk at Radford/Lenton Library, a showing of Pride at the Savoy Cinema and an afterparty at the New Foresters. Note – the film showing is sold out, but do come to the library talk and the afterparty!
The illustrated library talk will now be given by Colin Clews, a member of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners. It will cover LGBT+ history, Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, libraries and LGBT+ books, includes discussion time, and takes place at Radford/Lenton Library 10.30-11.30am. You can come to the talk alone if you wish – no charge and no ticket required.
Colin Clews was brought up in a mining village near Durham. He set up the first AIDS support group in Nottingham and was one of the editors of GEM (Gay East Midlands). He was an active member of Lesbians and Gay Support the Miners and is second on the right in this archive photograph. Currently living in Cambridge, he has been the curator there of the Queers in Shorts programme of short films.
Colin is also the author of Gay in the 80s – and copies will be available at the talk at the bargain price of £10!
This all has particular relevance as two of the threatened libraries were partially funded by miners.
Organised with Save Nottingham Libraries.
