Five Leaves Bookshop
Kathryn Daszkiewicz, like the others, is a Five Leaves regular. Tonight she will be launching her new Shoestring collection, Book of Follies which includes her customary discomfiting wit as she takes on painful relationships with no sentiment, using the natural world as a guard.
Andrew Taylor takes you on a journey through landscapes and places such as the Welsh hills, the West Coast Mainline and the north docks of Liverpool. Travel is a recurring theme throughout these poems, alongside music and the seasons and the shifts they bring. From having coffee in quiet city-centre cafés to travelling around complete rail networks, Taylor invites you into a world that is both personal and universal. His new book, March, is published by Shearsman.
Rory Waterman is also a poet on the move. Sarajevo Roses, launched tonight, is Rory’s second collection. On sleeper trains, in cars and on foot, Waterman takes us into Mediterranean Europe, to Palma’s Bellver Castle, to Venice, to Krujë, to the Italian ghost-town Craco, and to St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, where ‘selfie-sticks dance before us at the altar’. Sarajevo’s ‘neatened muddle of terracotta and concrete’ is twinned with the ‘church spires and rain-bright roofs’ of the poet’s former hometown, Lincoln.
